Vernetta Holman of Career Essentials, LLC (CE) contacted us with a wide range of startup business needs. The following is a snapshot of the development process we used.
The Challenge:
- A website needed to be built from the ground up
- A logo and color scheme needed creation
- Business facebook and linkedin pages needed to be developed
- Branding and content across all platforms needed to be consistent
- A blog was recommended to share advice and content with potential customers and small businesses
- And, everything needed to be kept within a tight startup business budget!
The Process:
- Define
- The full scope of work was defined at the beginning of the process. It was clear that a total internet solution including a social media presence was desired.
- Color schemes and ideas for a logo were passed on to the graphic team as a 'heads up' for a possible new project.
- The time committment needed to maintain various media was discussed and an approach was selected that included some oversight by LoebigInk and significant time by the Vernetta.
- The end product was defined before any significant work began
- Measure
- Key measurements of success were chosen that included deadlines for development, satisfaction with branding and design and comfort with managing the various sites.
- Other simliar websites were also reviewed for ideas to include in the CE website and for content on the blog.
- Agree
- A proposal and agreement was drafted that outlined specific development tasks, hosting and design features that allowed Vernetta to choose the elements that were needed first based on her budget
- For example, Facebook and Google advertising were not initially implemented since having an internet presence was the first priority. And, a newsletter is planned for future development.
- Design
- The WebsiteParkingLot.com content management system was chosen as the platform so back end development of templates started immediately.
- The graphics team began working on logo and color schemes and presented several draft ideas before the final one was selected by Vernetta.
- Business blog, facebook and linkedin pages were set up immediately to give Vernetta time to get familar with the media in advance of the website publishing. Logos and branding were added later.
- Train
- Two one-hour sessions were scheduled after the site was developed but before it was published so that Vernetta was comfortable with updating pages prior to the sites official launch.
- Free tech support on questions about social media and website features are an ongoing service
- Communicate
- Vernetta communicated the upcoming launch date to her Facebook (and face to face!) friends and family before the launch date.
- When the site went live she invited her network to visit the page and began writing additional blogs
- The site was listed with key search engines after the domain went live and other related business and partner website were invited to link to the site.
The Result:
- Original logo and design was implemented across all platforms and media.
- Key documents were redesigned to match the new brand
- A total internet and social media presence was developed and implemented within 2 months
