Jirous (cpmp_peter@yahoo.com)
- Our home remodel is still in progress however we have come to the last phase, it's been fun but now it's time to finish and get a life.
I have joined the local volunteer fire department and have achieved the level of Captain. We are proudly the second smallest fire department in the world (144 acres) behind only the Vatican City Fire Brigade (108.63 acres), that's our claim unless someone can prove otherwise. Visit our webpage at
http://www.wtinet.net/~parkridgefd/.
The greatest achievement since the hill is something that my wife and I have just finished and that is the adoption of a little girl from India. Her name is Koli which they tell us means budding flower, I got the impression that there wasn't a real good translation for it though. In any event she is the apple of our eye and is
making strides in learning English and all of the other things that a two year old does. We are currently starting the paperwork on another and hope that it takes less than the three years that it took for
Koli.
Hope to see everyone at the reunion in August.

"In December of last year, I--finally--finished my library degree at
Dominican. On July 16th, I started work with Chicago Public
Library. I am presently at the Woodson Regional Library, which is
located at 95th and Halsted. Other than the fact that my commute is now
about 50% then it used to by, it's a great job. I also like it a great
deal more than working in a law firm."
(updated 8/11/2004)
PREVIOUS UPDATE from 2/10/2000
"After six years of working as a legal assistant/paralegal, I decided
that I was going to go back to school to get my Masters in Library and
Information Sciences. This step was a big one for me as I after I'm done with
work, I don't have a heck of a lot of free time. Suffice to say, if I went
back to school, I wouldn't have any. I had actually started looking around for
a library job, but most of the ones I found just didn't pay very well.
So, I started back to class on January 11, 2001. On the morning of Monday,
January 22, I came in to work to be told by the attorneys that I had been
working with for the past six years that they were leaving the firm to start
their own firm. They wanted to know if I would come with them. I told them I'd
have to think about it. Regardless of whether I stayed at the Vedder or went
with them, there were going to be certain risk I would be taking. I went to
lunch with a friend and discussed it with her. I decided that I would probably
go with them.
I came back from lunch, and I had a message from the head of the library at
the firm, Ken. He asked me to stop by his office. I figured he was just
curious as to what was up and wanted to know what I was going to do. When I
went to see him, he offered me a job in the library. I had worked in the
library for five years when I started out at Vedder and knew Ken and the
reference librarian Deb. They're really great people and they do their jobs
really well. I have a lot of respect for them.
As my friend said, it was a "no brainer." I took the job in the
library. I haven't made up my mind as to whether I want to stay in law
libraries, but I'm beginning to lean that way. I'll just put my energy into my
schooling and getting used to my new job for know and worry about that latter.
Also, from time to time, I see a past class mate of ours from SLS. Tony
Cerda who went there for our freshman and sophomore years. Tony lives in
Chicago, I think. He is a docked clerk for the firm of Rudnick & Wolfe,
which is across the street from the building where I work. He's doing well, he
says.
Lastly, a reunion in 2004 sounds great. Let me know what's up. I'd be happy
to do anything. I can to help plan it."

my general credits out of the way. Then he attended Western Michigan University
in Kalamazoo, MI from 1986-90 and got a B.A. degree in graphic design along with
a graphic arts (printing) minor. "In 1991 I moved to the metro Detroit area
and worked at different design and marketing studios, mostly doing electronic
production for the automotive industry. In 1993 I met the lovely Kristin Otto (a
Wisconsin native) and we got married in 1995. In the spring of 1996 we moved to
Black Creek, Wisconsin (between Green Bay and He the
Fox cities) without any jobs lined up for either of us. We did this so we could
be closer to our families (Kristin's parents live outside Milwaukee and mine are
still in the U.P. and we didn't want to get tied down in lower Michigan.)
In October 2004 Kristin, Ian and I moved from New London WI to Milwaukee and opened up a store downtown in the Historic Third Ward. It's called "Sprout!" and we feature clothes and toys for 0-6 year-olds. We opened up a little before Thanksgiving and so far things are going well.
What prompted this? Kristin felt that if she remained in the corporate world, even though the money was good, it would eventually lead to a heart attack. She didn't see much of our son because she was always working. We wanted to move closer to family. We wanted to raise Ian in an area that was more culturally advantageous than New London. We wanted to create a work situation where we could take turns working and staying at home with Ian. It's been Kristin's lifelong dream of owning her own business. I always thought that Milwaukee would be a cool place to live.

Allen Averill (Allenave@pinenet.com)
"I decided to take a year off after high school and do some carpentry...some
of you may remember that I have a lot family in the trade. The original plan was to do this for a year to save some money for college.
That, of course, is not how it worked out. Five years later, with no money saved, I knew it was now or never. So I quite and went to college. I went to The University of Moorhead, in Moorhead MN. I Graduated with a BA in Psych and a minor in Philosophy (Bro
Doug would be proud...that was the Bro that gave us about 600 lbs of handouts in
Theology...right?)
After graduating, I put out apps and went with the first place that hired me...The Dept of Corrections in MN. I started out working with
Juveniles...that was hard but at times rewarding. I now work with adults in Rush City, MN. It is located about an hour north of the cities on I35. I am a sergeant in charge of the computer systems that run the place (..not IT..I actually run the door opening programs/ camera monitoring
etc.) I also am involved in some training programs for the staff that work there. People skills and verbal
skills...that sort of thing.
I am still single, but one day hope to change that...just ain't met the right girl yet I suppose.
The reunion sounds fun, I will try to make it. As long as I know 6 months in
advance...I should be able to get the time off.
Brian...great job on the site dude...I gotta tell you.. when you called me out of
nowhere...I was in shock. I have often wondered whatever happened to the old SLS crew...'Specially the old cronies that I used to hang out with (D&D ROCKS) <ain't played since I left...but where else you gonna find that kind of forced free time? The black sword still rules!>
I must admit that I was a bit surprised in going through the site that not many have
actually gone on to join the priesthood. I thought both Peter M and Charles C were a lock! Hell If I remember right we called 'em Father Pete and Bro Charles!! I also thought Dan B. was gonna be the sleeper dark horse that joined up and
surprised everyone. I could see him as the Harley riding..chain smokin' bro that spoke to the kids..
Brian...I thought you too maybe might have joined the ranks. When you first called...It had been so
long...I had a hard time remembering you. But then it came back. You were the guy who joined Senior/Junior year from another Seminary ( I hope I got this right). Crosiers(sp?) I
think...Junior year as I remember. I remember talking with you down in the lounge when you got there.
[note from Brian: I joined SLS senior year after transferring from Precious Blood
Seminary in Liberty, MO]
I got a question for everyone...does anyone know what ever happened to Tim
Scott...The fearless German leader that was dorm supervisor for Junior year and teacher for the German class? How-a-bout Fr. Bill that taught Spanish? Bro
Doug...with the 600 lbs of Philosophy handouts...I wonder about those guys...
I guess maybe I have been ramblin' a bit here, but this site has really
struck a chord. Please let me and the rest know what you have been up to...
Brian...you have done a good bit of work here...Thank you!!"

Moved to Colorado after graduation and held various jobs while attending school.
Only spent about 2 years working in the design industry before jumping into
healthcare. In September 2000, moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico with one
other colleague to start the first managed care Medicare plan called Medicare y
Mucho Mas on the island. Currently we serve over 45,000 Medicare
beneficiaries in Puerto Rico and were hoping to expand to the US Virgin Islands
soon. Life in the Caribbean is great -- I hope I never see snow again.
Although I speak a little Spanish, it still needs significant improvement.
Happy to see so many of you doing well. Glad I found the website.

I'm happily married to Latricia and have three children - twins Leila and
Madelynn (11) and Julian (5). My mom and sisters moved to Milwaukee in 85.
I moved to Milwaukee after graduation and worked/partied/went to school - not
particularly in that order.
I got into the restaurant industry in 88 and was a GM for various restaurants. I
moved to Naperville, IL in 95 and lived there until my wife got homesick.
We moved back to Milwaukee in 99.
It's really great to see that everyone is doing well. One constant in my
life since SLS is that I have always been connected in some way to SLS.
Either through guys I lived/hung out with when I first moved to Milwaukee (Tim
Celichowski, Pat Fennessy, David Murguia & others), friendships
maintained/rekindled (Steve Williams) or, unfortunately, funerals (Bruce Gallitz,
Carl Brown, David Murguia).
I am a member of St. Martin de Porres church in Milwaukee where I serve on
the Parish Council. St. Martins is right next to St. Conrad House where
Capuchins reside. Fr. Brian Braun was the pastor until he retired last month.
Fr. John Celichowski (class of 79) in now the pastor. Fr. Brian recently celebrated
his 50th anniversary as a Capuchin and invited many alumni from SLS. It
was great seeing so many guys from "back in the day". It's
amazing that, no matter when you attended or what crap you went through when you
up there, we all share a bond that most folks can't comprehend.
Currently, I am the Director of Operations for Advance America Cash Advance
Centers. One of my locations is in Fon du Lac. Last year, out of
curiosity, I drove up to "The Hill". I have to admit it was a
pretty emotional experience.
I wish everyone continued success and look forward to catching up.
Thanks Brian.

Since high school I have been married to Theresa. We were married in 1993
and now have three beautiful children. Also, I am a minister in the
prison ministry at my church. Looking forward to starting a hope house to
help ex-offenders that want to get their lives back in good standings and back
on track with society.
